Nicola Finnerty is a leading criminal defence expert in both crime and fraud.  A co-founder of Corker Binning in October 2000, Nicola became a partner in May 2001. Previously she was with Peters & Peters, having qualified in 1996.

Nicola advises on all areas of criminal law. Her areas of specialism include fraud, business crime, corruption, tax matters, insider dealing, financial compliance issues, environmental health, trading standards, money laundering, asset seizure, confiscation and serious crime. She also advises on all matters relating to mutual legal assistance, extradition and European Arrest Warrants.

Nicola acts for individual and corporate clients, financial institutions and professional firms in investigations and proceedings brought by the Serious Fraud Office, the Fraud Prosecution Service, Crown Prosecution Service, the Department for Business Innovation and Skills (formerly BERR), the Financial Services Authority, the Department for Work & Pensions, HM Revenue & Customs and other prosecuting bodies. She is routinely instructed in judicial review and appeal cases.  

Nicola has been instructed in many high profile trials. She recently defended Anne Darwin, in the well publicised “missing canoeist” fraud case.

She is a member of the Law Society, the London Criminal Courts Solicitors Association, the Criminal Law Solicitors Association and the European Criminal Bar Association.  Her professional committee work includes having served as chair of the Young Fraud Lawyers Association, sitting on the Fraud Sub Committee of the London Criminal Courts Association and the European Criminal Bar Association (written responses and proposals for the EU framework on confiscation and the code of conduct and disciplinary procedure of the International Criminal Court).

In 2004 she co-authored the section on Revenue and Customs investigations in Fraud: Law, Practice & Procedure published by Butterworths.
